These heart shaped cookies with an EASY royal icing recipe are done in just a few steps using toothpicks!  You won't believe how  simple it is to create such beautiful heart designs on your sugar cookies.

Ice the Cookie

Outline the cookie with icing and then use offset spatula to spread (flood) the icing over the cookie.

Dot the Icing

Use squeeze bottle to make dots in the wet icing.

Make the Hearts

While icing is still wet, run a toothpick through the dots to create the hearts.

Let Set

Let set to harden.

TIP: 

To keep icing from drying out, store squeeze bottles upside down in a glass with 1/2-inch of water.
