For the marinade:

– ¼ cup sugar
– ¼ cup vegetable oil
– ¼ cup lime juice (about 4 limes)
– 2 medium scallions , sliced thin
– 2 Tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
– 3 medium cloves of garlic , minced or pressed
– ½ teaspoon ground ginger
