This Week on Pennies on a Platter
This section highlights the recipes posted this week on Pennies on a Platter and other updates to the blog, if any.
Guinness Milk Chocolate Ice Cream - My husband's new favorite ice cream, and a great way to use up the beer from Saint Patty's.
How to Cut Cauliflower - A photo tutorial on how to easily cut cauliflower into bite-sized florets.
Roasted Cauliflower - My favorite way to prepare and eat cauliflower.
Dug Out from the Archives
Let's dig into the archives and reconsider some of the older recipes on Pennies on a Platter that we ate this week. (Some of which I plan to re-post with new photos and better directions in the near future.)
Peanut Butter M&M Cookies - These soft and crunchy cookies are always a favorite in our house. I served these up for some guys who came over this week to watch a movie with Ben in our theater room.
Baked Chicken Parmesan - Packed full of flavor, this is one of the best chicken dishes to make that doesn't require much effort at all. Another recipe we like to eat with the Garlic Rice Pilaf, of course.
Caught My Eye
I love reading other blogs and websites, and often bookmark their recipes, products or reviews. These are a few that top my list from the week.
Brown Sugar Cookies @Baking Bites - I love sugar cookies, but making them with brown sugar had never occurred to me until I saw this recipe. Brilliant! And, I am a big fan of the ingredient list...staple pantry items.
Pinterest - Have you heard of Pinterest yet? I love this site and joined a few months ago. Probably the best way I can describe it is a humongous virtual bulletin board. I was stoked when I first came across it because it's what I've been wishing to have for a long time. When browsing different websites, instead of bookmarking them and adding to my mega long list, all I need to do is click one button on my toolbar called "Pin It" and that page is "pinned" onto my Pinterest account, under the category I choose. Check it out. I think it is still in it's beta stage, so you need to request an invitation to join.
My Life as a Pastor's Wife and Food Blogger
Want more insight into my life as a Pastor's wife, mom, friend, relative and food blogger? Then, read on! If not, ignore this section. 🙂 This is a place for me to write what's on my mind and journal some of the crowning moments of my week.
This week has also been quite cold. Temperatures were in the 40s and low 50s which doesn't seem like California spring weather to me. It was hard transitioning from last week's warmer weather. In fact, it was so warm just one week ago that we took Judah down the hill to Victoria Gardens where he played in the water fountains. It was in the 80s that day. With such drastic weather changes, no wonder I've been sick!
Here's a quick little video of Judah and his friend, Avi, playing in the water. I would've joined them, but I didn't want to ruin my hair. 🙂
I've been sick with a cold for two weeks now, and Judah is finally starting to cut his upper teeth. So, needless to say, we are both worn out and I think Ben is worn out from taking care of us! Plus, we started our landscaping to our (new to us) California home this week. It's unbelievable how hard Ben is working on the yard every day, and honestly quite sexy. 😉 Yesterday the curbing man came and today Ben and a few friends put down the sod. It looks great! Here in the desert, you do not see many yards with green grass. But, we have portioned out a small grass area in our front yard so we can reminisce of our days back home in the Midwest. Of course, we needed to be careful on the size of the section because watering it will be a bit pricey here.
Next, we plan on spreading rock out on the rest of the lawn and planting a few bushes or whatever kind of foliage can endure desert climates. If any of you have ideas and are familiar with desert plants, please send me your recommendations. We need all the help we can!
