We like to prepare cooked shredded chicken to have on hand in the freezer so it's ready for a quick weeknight meal. When we're in a good routine, we do this monthly. Sometimes I use my crock pot to cook the chicken, but my favorite way is boiling it and using the delicious broth. Either method gives you a bunch of shredded chicken for leftover chicken recipes!
🍗 How to Store Leftover Shredded Chicken
The day I prepare cooked shredded chicken, I intentionally make a bunch either in my crock pot or on the stove top. Both ways are super simple.
After the chicken is cooked, I shred it and let it cool. If I plan on using some for dinner that night, then I'll portion that out and store it in the fridge. The rest I store in freezer bags in 2 to 3 cup portions and place in the freezer. I like to use it up from the freezer within 2 months.
