Moms, do you take the time to dress yourself in current fashion trends? Do you even find the time to shop?
After 4 ½ years of being a mom, I've noticed that I have let myself slide in the fashion area. A few months ago, I decided I wanted to be more in tune of fashion trends and wear more than just play clothes every day. Don't misunderstand me. I'll definitely continue to sport my Superman t-shirt and comfy denim, but I also want to try to look a little cuter which in turn helps me feel a little better - and that affects a lot of things in my life. Like, moments with my kids, how I interact with and treat others, productivity with work, and flirting with my husband. 😉
In addition to figuring out the latest fashions, there are two other hurdles with dressing myself. 1: Money, and 2: Finding time to shop. It's impossible to shop with the kiddos in tow, and I'm scared of online shopping because I'm one of those that needs to try things on. That said, I was pleased to recently discover Golden Tote, which is an online boutique that mails you a box of clothes based on your own style profile.
Golden Tote offers two options. You can pick their $49 package, or their $149 one. Both packages include choosing an item or more from the boutique, then their stylists take a look at your style profile and choose the rest of the items to send you.
Here's how the two packages work:
$49 Tote:
-You choose 1 item from the boutique
-Golden Tote stylists surprise you with 1-2 more items
-Contents in package are valued up to $250
$149 Tote:
-You choose 2 items from the boutique
-Golden Tote stylists surprise you with 3-5 more items
-Contents in package are valued up to $600
In other words, you can receive 2-3 shirts, pants or dresses for a total of $49, plus shipping. Or, 5-7 shirts, pants or dresses for a total of $149, plus shipping. Not too bad!
Golden Tote offered to send me their $149 tote from the May sale to review. Want to see what I got? Most items I really liked, but a couple I'm still on the fence about. Maybe you can give me your thoughts!
ITEMS I CHOSE:
Since I was receiving the $149 package, I got to choose two items from the boutique. The first item I picked were these Slouchy Statement Pants. I was nervous they would be too small, but they JUST fit and I love them! They are super comfortable and as its title suggests, I can be slouchy with them while making a statement through its wild tribal pattern.
I also picked the Pleated Printed Top in the green multi color. I really like this one, too. It's light material and loose fitting, while allowing a lot of different ways to wear it.
ITEMS GOLDEN TOTE CHOSE:
The first item that the Golden Tote stylists chose for me, was this sheer tank in navy. I need to find something to wear under it (don't look too closely at the photo...lol), and wasn't sure I was going to like it. But, it's one of my favorite items!
The dress I'm in (pictured right above) is another item Golden Tote chose for me. Unfortunately, I'm not too thrilled with the color, or the style. Maybe when my skin is a little more tan, the color will look nicer, but again, the style isn't something I think is too flattering for my body. It's a little shorter than I'm used to, as well.
This was another dress picked for me. Cute, but TOO SHORT. I'm thinking I'll wear it over my swim suit to the beach later this month. Could work well for that, because it IS super comfortable. Maybe pair it with leggings another time? What color leggings, though? A belt, too?
Last but certainly not least, was my favorite item they chose for me. I love love love this shirt! It is something that I'm not sure I would've picked out, but SO glad they chose it for me! It is FLOWY and very cute with skinny jeans or leggings. It can be dressed up or down, and I really like the colors.
Golden Tote PROS:
- At $49 or $149 for items that value from $200 to $600 total, the price is very affordable.
- You get to pick one or two of your items.
- You're forced to be adventurous and try what the stylists pick out for you. I wouldn't have dared try a few of the items I received and really glad that I have them now!
- You can choose additional items from the boutique at low prices.
- Golden Tote has a Facebook group where you can trade or sell the items you do not want with other Golden Tote members.
Golden Tote CONS:
- Sales launch the first Monday of every month. If you do not sign in the minute they start their new sale, you may miss out on items you really wanted.
Even if you have an item in your "cart", you can still get all the way to the very last page of check-out only to find your choice went out of stock while filling out your payment information. Not good! This happened to me with the slouch pants. I initially had the Medium size in my cart, but when I clicked "confirm payment" at check-out, an error popped up that Medium was no longer in stock. I opted for the small and prayed they'd fit, and they did! So, this time it worked out okay for me,but I really hope they consider holding your items in your cart for at least 2 minutes to allow time to check out.I was a little stressed during this process because of it. UPDATE: Golden Tote informed me that starting with June's sale, they are implementing a cart timer so items won't be "lost". - It's an "all or nothing" deal. If you don't like any of the items, you can't return just that item. You have to return the entire tote or keep it all.
- You have to pay shipping when ordering and returning items.
So there you have it. My first Golden Tote experience and it went very well, in my opinion! Ready to give it a try?
Golden Tote provided me with a complimentary box for review. There are also affiliate links within this post that provide me with a small credit towards my future boxes should you decide to sign up and try it out.
