Today is a special day as we celebrate my friend, Jessica, who authors the food blog, My Baking Heart. She's getting MARRIED this month! I'm so excited for her! We got to meet in real life almost a year ago at the Foodbuzz Festival. She and her mom (the Paula Deen look-alike) were so much fun to be around. I found myself wanting to find them if I was looking for some company that weekend. 🙂 Jessica is one of the sweetest gals I've met, and I can't wait to see her again sometime! And, that's totally going to happen now that we live only 6 hours from each other, right Jess!? 😉
In Jessica's honor, I'm throwing her a virtual bridal shower with some of her closest blogging friends and bloggers who have inspired her since her first days of writing and photographing. My recipe contribution to the shower is a dessert that I think fits Jessica well. I can't help but think that Jessica is going to be that perfect wife who has a pie all baked and ready for her husband or any guests that unexpectedly come over that night. Residing in Texas, she's such an all-American southern gal, that these apple hand pies seemed to fit the bill.
Please check out the other fabulous bloggers who contributed to Jessica's shower by clicking over to their sites below. You don't want to miss the great food!!
Congratulations, Jessica and Chris! Marriage is hard, but it is FUN. Enjoy!!

Fried Cinnamon Apple Hand Pies
Ingredients
- 2 large apples , peeled and diced very small (I prefer Honeycrisp, but use what you like)
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon flour
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of ground nutmeg
- Vegetable oil
- 20 to 24 round wonton wrappers
For the cinnamon sugar topping:
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Place the diced apples in a medium saucepan. In a small bowl, combine the 3 Tablespoons sugar, flour, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over the apples and toss with a spoon.
- Heat the apples over medium heat until just starting to soften but still with a bite, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside to slightly cool.
- Meanwhile, pour a ½-inch layer of vegetable oil into a frying pan. Heat over medium heat until hot and ready for frying. A good test is to sprinkle water into the pan with your hand. If it sizzles right away, it's ready.
- While the oil is heating up to the right temperature, prepare the pies. Working in batches, place just under a Tablespoon of the apple pie filling into the center of each wonton. Brush water around the edges of the wonton and fold over to seal.
- Pinch the seams to create the fluted edges.
- Fry in the pan for about 10-15 seconds on each side. Drain on a paper towel lined plate.
- Combine the remaining 2 Tablespoons sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle evenly over the pies, serve immediately.
