This Week on Pennies on a Platter
This section highlights the recipes posted this week on Pennies on a Platter and other updates to the blog, if any.
Tropical Fusion Salad - The second recipe for my monthly Readers' Recipes feature, this salad shared by Jacqui is a great healthy meal on its own.
Bridal Shower 'Tushie Cookies - Sugar cookies decorated with a little bit of sass to serve as perfect party favors for a lingerie shower.
Broccoli Salad - A classic I grew up with and should be served at every picnic or potluck gathering.
Dug Out from the Archives
Let's dig into the archives and reconsider some of the older recipes on Pennies on a Platter that we ate this week. (Some of which I plan to re-post with new photos and better directions in the near future.)
Burger Buns - These will be enjoyed a lot this summer, as I can not go back to store bought buns after making them.
Quinoa and Black Bean Salad - We cooked out at a friend's a few days ago where I brought all the food and we used their lovely backyard patio (since ours is still under construction.) I daringly brought this as one of the sides, where it was very well received.
Caught My Eye
I love reading other blogs and websites, and often bookmark their recipes, products or reviews. These are a few that top my list from the week.
Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade - I'm always on the look-out for new non-alcoholic drinks and this one shared by Annie seems right up my alley.
Big Fat Bacon Sliders - This weekend, if your grill is going to be packed full of steaks, chicken and veggies, try having these little sliders prepped as appetizers while everyone is waiting. These are baked in the oven, so you do not have to worry about finding room on the grill.
My Life as a Pastor's Wife and Food Blogger
Want more insight into my life as a Pastor's wife, mom, friend, relative and food blogger? Then, read on! If not, ignore this section. 🙂 This is a place for me to write what's on my mind and journal some of the crowning moments of my week.
While we live in California, Ben and I want to make the most of it and enjoy the culture around us as much as possible. We recently attended an Angel's baseball game with our friends. I'll be honest, baseball games are not my favorite sporting event, so I wasn't extremely excited about going. But, once we got there and I saw how amazing the stadium is, I loved every moment! Plus, the last baseball game I attended a few years ago (Detroit Tigers vs I.Can't.Remember.Who) we were in the bleachers on a 90˚F hot and humid afternoon. The weather at the Angel's game was the exact opposite...a chilly evening game but very manageable with a light sweater. Plus, it always helps when there is a fireworks show after the game.
On another note, we are working very hard to get our house projects completed before Ben's parents come to visit this weekend. It's always a nice motivator when you are expecting guests. Maybe I'll post before/after pics sometime soon on my Facebook page. 🙂 Judah thinks he's helping us paint as evidenced in the photo below. So glad I bought washable crayons!
Have a great holiday weekend!
