This Week on Pennies on a Platter
This section highlights the recipes posted this week on Pennies on a Platter and other updates to the blog, if any.
Mexican Brownie Bottom Cheesecake - A not-so-traditional food to add to your Cinco de Mayo menu each year. This immediately became one of our favorite desserts.
Mexican Egg Skillet - After enjoying so many skillet variations at one of my favorite restaurants, I have found a good basic recipe as a start to adding more ingredients.
Hot Dog Buns - A fun way to celebrate purchasing our new grill, after going 9 long months without one!
Dug Out from the Archives
Let's dig into the archives and reconsider some of the older recipes on Pennies on a Platter that we ate this week. (Some of which I plan to re-post with new photos and better directions in the near future.)
Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza - We had friends over for dinner where I quadrupled this recipe to serve everyone. I love this pizza now more than when we ordered it from the restaurants in Chicago. Adding pepperoni to two of the pizzas this week definitely made it spot-on for me!
Spaghetti Meat Sauce - This will be the last time I post this link for a while, but we had our fair share of spaghetti this week using this sauce. Probably having it again tomorrow!
Caught My Eye
I love reading other blogs and websites, and often bookmark their recipes, products or reviews. These are a few that top my list from the week.
Addicted 2 Decorating - I came across this website as I was trying to find inspiration for decorating our home, and now I'm seriously addicted. One of the best things this website has to offer are Virtual Room Designs. You submit your budget and room that you want to redecorate, and Kristi (the interior designer behind this site) will put together a personalized plan for you! You can also view before and after pictures of other client's projects for even more inspiration. Love it!
My Life as a Pastor's Wife and Food Blogger
Want more insight into my life as a Pastor's wife, mom, friend, relative and food blogger? Then, read on! If not, ignore this section. 🙂 This is a place for me to write what's on my mind and journal some of the crowning moments of my week.
Since we moved to the high desert of California, I've had a difficult time finding fun things to do with Judah during the days. There just isn't that much to do out here, and we're definitely feeling it. My friend, Mandy, came to the rescue. About a year ago, she started a Little Learners' Club for moms and their children. They get together once a month to do a learning project and play/eat together. This month's theme was gardening. Judah and I decided to try out our first LLC this week at the gardening party. Here are a few pictures from the day:
The kids planting their flowers and/or seeds. (I gave Judah basil seeds with high hopes, but the pot is still sitting in my garage, not watered since the day we planted it. Oops.)
We made our way inside the hostess' house, where Judah immediately found the Kitchen play-set. I need to get him one of these!
We had snacks. Notice the dirt and worms to the left? Never thought I'd say this about dirt and worms, but...YUM!
Then it was story time. This is about the only time Judah was paying more attention to the story than to his food.
Thanks, Mandy, for all of your hard work. We had a great time learning how to plant seeds and how to eat dirt and worms.
