KING CAKE RECIPE

This king cake recipe is easier than you might think. You can celebrate Mardi Gras no matter where you live and eat homemade king cake, fresh!

Ingredients:

– ¼ cup warm water – .25 ounce instant yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons) – 5 Tablespoons granulated sugar , divided – 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter – Pinch of salt – 8 ounces sour cream – 1 egg – 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour , more or less – Oil for hands and bowl For the filling: – 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter , melted – 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon – ¼ cup granulated sugar

 A traditional king cake is a royal looking pastry adorned with beads and jewels to celebrate the coming of the three kings.

GENERAL STEPS

Follow the instructions to make the dough. Shape the dough into a ball and transfer to a bowl. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm, draft-free area until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour. Follow the instructions for making the filling.
