This Week on Pennies on a Platter
This section highlights the recipes posted this week on Pennies on a Platter and other updates to the blog, if any.
Blueberry and Pineapple Yogurt Pops - Popsicles are popping up all over the place (pun intended). This is just one of the many variations I want to try this year. And, what a nutritious way to cool off this summer!
Grilled Chicken Quesadillas - Maybe I'm getting a little too obsessed, but I'm loving my grilled quesadillas this season. It's so nice to have another meal made solely on the grill with little to clean up.
Garlic Water Spinach - A new healthy snack for us. We had it twice this week and even Judah ate some of it after I chopped it up in very small pieces.
Dug Out from the Archives
Let's dig into the archives and reconsider some of the older recipes on Pennies on a Platter that we ate this week. (Some of which I plan to re-post with new photos and better directions in the near future.)
Chocolate Chip Treasure Cookies - I added butterscotch and white chocolate chips to these cookies which raised them to another level. Remember the awesome Seven-Layer (or Magic) Bars? These are basically the same thing in drop cookie form. My mother-in-law declared them as her new favorite cookie.
Caught My Eye
I love reading other blogs and websites, and often bookmark their recipes, products or reviews. These are a few that top my list from the week.
I can honestly say I haven't been surfing the web much this week because of my in-laws' visit. So, nothing new to share in this section.
My Life as a Pastor's Wife and Food Blogger
Want more insight into my life as a Pastor's wife, mom, friend, relative and food blogger? Then, read on! If not, ignore this section. 🙂 This is a place for me to write what's on my mind and journal some of the crowning moments of my week.
As I mentioned last week, Ben's parents (Nana and Papa) are visiting. Although Papa left for home this weekend, we get to enjoy Nana's company for another week. While Papa was here, he bought Judah a remote control car and a kite. This was Judah's first time flying a kite.
He was a little scared of the RC car after Ben accidentally drove it over his foot. But, he warmed up to it again right away and quickly figured out that the remote was controlling the car. Such a natural. 😉
Early Saturday morning, Nana stayed home with Judah while Ben ran Papa to the airport and I checked out some garage sales. My goal was to find clothes for Judah and a toddler table and chairs set. The first two garage sales I went to were a gold mine! I bought a bagful of clothes for a total of $3.00 and then found the perfect table and chairs for only $6.00 in perfect shape! The set sells on Amazon for $74.00 and ToysRUs for $49.00. Can't beat the deal I got! And, Judah has already spent hours with it.
And, like we usually do for our visitors, we used our inside connection to give Nana and Papa a tour at Paramount Studios where Judah got to meet Twist, Reed and Melody from The Fresh Beat Band.
This week we have more planned, including a trip to the local zoo! I'm sure I'll tell you all about it next weekend. 🙂
